I don’t know if you remember this little game called Prey? It was a game released back in 2006 on the Xbox 360 and PC, where you played a Cherokee Indian with mythical Indian powers who had to save his whole reservation after he and the reservation are abducted by aliens. Doesn’t ring a bell? Not surprising since it was one of those diamond in the rough games that nobody really knew about. Well a second one is being developed (at least I think so), but the gamer gods have decided to set plagues upon it. It’s pretty complicated but here’s the jest: it was originally being developed by developer Radar Group, then got transferred to Bethesda Softworks, then Zenimax Media, then Human Head Studios and between all of these developers it has been rumored to be cancelled twice and shelved about the same amount of times, give or take! After all of this it is now supposedly slated for a 2013 release. Drama unfolds, but let’s actually talk Prey 2 the game, not Prey 2 the politics! In the sequel you play as U.S Marshall Killian Samuels, whose commercial flight is caught in the same beam of light that abducted Prey 1’s protagonist and his reservation. Skip ahead a couple of years and Killian finds himself as a skilled Bounty Hunter on the alien world Exodus, with no recollection of what has happened since his abduction and so begins the journey for answers a la Total Recall style! Gameplay has been showed in trailers but with all the developer jumps who really knows what the game looks like today? What is known is that the player will have an assortment of gadgets to use with upgradeability, including rocket boots and a scanner to track bounties. There will be a morality system that will involve deciding whether or not to deliver a bounty for material goods or using the bounty as a source of information on your foggy past. Weapons are unsurprisingly of alien origin but there are a couple of human weapons sprinkled about within, Exodus. As you can see from the picture above Killian looks pretty badass so IF this game does come to light someday I’m hoping the book matches the cover, if you know what I mean. Please enjoy this cinematic trailer and pray for Prey 2!
